In 1987, the State of New Hampshire made a one-time commitment of $500,000 in public funds to be released if and when the organization raised an equal amount of private funds. Early in 1988, the Lou and Lutza Smith Foundation made one of the largest gifts in its history to the NHCTF and helped secure these public dollars.

Today, the income generated from this endowment is combined with private donations and a grant from the Federal Office on Child Abuse and Neglect, and dispersed to community-based organizations that work to strengthen and support families. Since its inception, the NHCTF has awarded $1.6 m statewide.

In 1996, the Lou and Lutza Smith Foundation awarded $500,000 to the New Hampshire Children’s Trust Fund to complete an endowment fundraising campaign, which included matching funds from the State of New Hampshire. Part of this gift from the Smith Foundation endows the Smith Award for Excellence in Service to Families, a recognition grant awarded every two years.

NHCTF is governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees, and a staff manages the daily operations. Our offices are located at 95 N. State Street, Suite 3, Concord, NH 03301.
